CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay football senior quarterback JaVaughn Craig earned the College Football Performance Award’s National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 58-21 win at Tennessee Tech.

The purpose of the CFPA is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

The Chattanooga native was also named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his work against the Golden Eagles.

Craig led the Govs to 58 points which is the most in an OVC road contest in program history. He also tied the program record with five passing touchdowns and recorded two more on the ground against Tech.

In not ideal weather conditions, Craig finished 16-of-23 passing for 291 yards and added 84 rushing yards on seven carries. Three of Craig’s scores through the air were from 30-plus yards.

The Governor signal caller accounted for more points by himself than any other team in the conference, and put up more points by himself than the other three league games featured over the weekend.

Craig is the first Gov to earn CFPA National Performer of the Week honors, and the first Governor to earn a weekly honor of any kind from the CFPA since Terrence Holt did so in 2010.

This is Craig’s second honor from the OVC in 2019 and marks his fourth career weekly honor from the league.

Craig and the Govs return to action at noon Saturday, Nov. 2 as they take on Eastern Kentucky in Richmond.
