CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Austin Peay State University Office of Continuing Education, in collaboration with Montgomery County Emergency Medical Service (EMS), is launching a new, 14-week Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course this fall.

Austin Peay’s EMT course will prepare students for the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians certification and exciting EMS careers. To become a technician, individuals must earn an NREMT certification.

EMTs are typically the first to respond to the scene during an emergency. In order to provide quality care to their patients, technicians must be able to conduct patient assessments, assess emergency medical conditions, administer appropriate emergency care and use appropriate transportation procedures.

The EMS profession is constantly evolving, and it is essential to remain current with changing technology and practices. Classes will be at the new, state-of-the-art Montgomery County EMS training facility and will give students instruction from leaders in the industry; Austin Peay EMT instructors are certified and have extensive experience in the EMS profession.

The course will meet from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Qualified graduates from the class will have preference from competitive hiring lists for vacant EMT positions in Montgomery County.
