CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay University outfielder Garrett Martin signed with the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent following the MLB Draft on Tuesday night.
Martin was coming off a 2023 season with the Govs where he had a batting average of .333, on-base percentage of .461, slugging percentage of .709 and an OPS of 1.170, according to APSU Athletics.
The 6-foot-3 outfielder also had 55 total hits, 13 doubles, 15 home runs, 46 RBI’s and 55 runs scored last season. Martin led his team in the following categories: runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS and hit-by-pitches.
Martin joins a Yankees farm system that was ranked as the 13th best in Major League Baseball by MLB.com in March of this year.
During the 2023 MLB Draft, New York only selected three outfielders through the 20 rounds of picks. With that being said, Martin will have a chance to make his mark within the organization as he makes a push to advance his major league career.
