CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Asulon Collective is Clarksville’s newest craft coffeehouse, located downtown on Third Street, and while they offer a wide range of coffee, specialty drinks and baked goods, the business is also focused on cultivating community connections.
Owner Emily Springer told Clarksville Now she has been interested in owning her own coffee shop since college, but the process began to unfold around five years ago.
She decided to start a business in January 2020 and decided on the name “Asulon,” which means “sanctuary” or “refuge” in Greek. “With the pandemic hitting, the timing was interesting because my job went fully remote during that time,” she said. “But it allowed me an opportunity to business plan, and I started a blog to cast a vision of what I wanted to do.”
Springer asked herself how to start small and grow sustainably. She decided to work events with coffee carts around Middle Tennessee, which they still offer to this day.
“Trying one step at a time to grow the business as one event leads to the next,” she said. “I’m very grateful for the journey because in waiting, we were able to partner and work with Millan Enterprises to lease space from them at this beautiful location.”
Menu and bringing people together
Springer said their traditional specialty menu includes coffee options such as Americanos, cappuccinos and lattes, plus a variety of specialty drinks. She said all syrups used have been made in-house, and Asulon Collective will also offer seasonal options. For now, the food menu includes options such as avocado toast, lemon ricotta waffles, and sausage egg and cheese biscuits. All baked goods are made in-house, fresh every day.
In addition, Asulon Collective offers customers the opportunity to meet new people with their ‘”Let’s Connect” feature. It works by grabbing a Let’s Connect tabletop sign to show you’re open to conversation with somebody new. Asulon also offers conversation cards to enhance the experience.

Springer said Asulon Collective is thankful for the warm welcome. “We are very intentional with the details, so we’re excited to welcome people as they come in the doors and build community here,” Springer said. “We’re kind of taking the concept of refuge can be a place, but it can also be found in people as well.
“We just want people to come in and be able to have a good time and connect, while we serve a good product that’s consistent. So, if you’re looking to just get in and out with coffee and a bagel, we can be that place for you. We’re excited to continue meeting people,” Springer said.
