On May 16, 2013, the last day of her sophomore year, Ashley Travis was on her way to school when the car she was in was hit head on by a driver under the influence. Ashley was life-flighted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she spent several weeks fighting to recover from a traumatic brain injury.

Travis was then transferred to Atlanta, Georgia where she spent the entire summer undergoing rehabilitation and therapy. Travis is now a junior at MCHS and serves as captain of the varsity cheer team. Her condition is improving but she is still recovering from her traumatic brain injury.

MCHS science teacher and Varsity Cheerleader Head Coach, Keri Lehman, talked about the very special event. “We’re here to just pull the community together to support her and her love for cheerleading. Ashley is still on the road to recovery and still needs a lot of prayers from us and our community,” said Lehman.

Lehman added that Ashley loves cheering, she’s dedicated, energetic and she’s a fighter and if anyone else was out there in this situation she would be doing the same thing. All of the proceeds from the cheer and dance teams participation and admission to the event will go to Travis and her family.
