CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – On Saturday October 1, your local Habitat ReStore will host its sixth annual ‘ReCreate’, a fall festival focusing on repurposed materials, particularly those found in the ReStore.

The ReStore is looking for artists who work with repurposed and recycled materials to participate in the fall event. The deadline to participate is September 18. Please call (931) 645-4242 for more information. There is no booth fee and each artist will have a $30 credit to use items from the ReStore for art they will display and sell at the event. All proceeds from the sale of art are the artists to keep.

The ReCreate focus is on “members of our community committed to creating a more beautiful and endurable Clarksville through creative reuse show how they are choosing to make their neighborhoods more environmentally and economically sustainable.”

ReStore Manager, Kathryn Norbeck-Dayley explained, “I took the idea for ReCreate from a project that New Orleans started called the ReUse District. This will be our sixth ReCreate and we hope to see this grow into something similar. Downtown Clarksville has a growing art community and we would love to see an event bring artists together to focus on reducing landfill use while making something beautiful. We want downtown businesses, like the ReStore, focused on reusing, recycling, and repurposing materials to support these initiatives.”

Besides the art by local vendors, the ReStore will hold its annual kids’ pumpkin decorating party at ReCreate.
Using items from the ReStore, the children decorate pumpkins to take home with them at no charge. Inventory manager, Alycia Milner states that “this is one our most popular events. The kids love it and it helps the ReStore find a creative and fun way to use surplus materials.”

In addition to the local artists and pumpkin decorating, free hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served during the event. ReStore associate, Crystal Laxton said, “Our customers are the best and we thought ReCreate was a great opportunity to show our customer appreciation. I hope everyone will come out, enjoy the local art and have a bite to eat – on the ReStore – while browsing.”

ReCreate coincides with Habitat for Humanity World Habitat Day 2016. Highlighting a shared vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County TN will have an information booth set up to answer questions about the homeowner program.

ReCreate will be in the ReStore parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.
