CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police are investigating a small fire at an apartment complex in Clarksville as possible arson.
According to a police report, two women were driving through the Waterbury Apartment complex at 2421 Madison St. Monday around 8 p.m. when they saw flames and smoke coming from one of the buildings.
Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire in the laundry room of the complex, which stays unlocked 24 hours a day.
Three apartments occupy the building where the fire was started, and the residents of two of the apartments were evacuated. The residents of the third apartment were not home at the time of the incident.
The fire caused damage to the floor and smoke damage to the three adjoining apartments. No one was injured.
Investigators believe the fire was intentionally set to cause damage or harm. Witnesses told police four or five white males who appear to be juveniles are typically seen hanging out in the laundry area wearing dark colored stocking hats. They live in another apartment complex that backs up to the Waterbury Complex.
