CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Former Army Ranger Steven Elliot’s involvement in the tragic friendly-fire death of fellow Ranger and former NFL player Pat Tillman made national headlines. Elliot will share his experiences in his keynote speech during Clarksville’s Honor Week luncheon on September 11.
Elliott joined the military in 2003 and served as a member of the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. In 2004, he deployed to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. In the midst of an enemy ambush, he was one of four Rangers who mistook Tillman’s position for that of the enemy and fired there. He is one of two Rangers considered likely to have fired the fatal shots.
Elliott served the remaining years of his enlistment and returned to civilian life in 2007. He is now a business owner, author and a national voice on the struggles combat veterans often face after their service ends.
Elliot’s Clarksville appearance is part of Honor Week, a series of events over the 9/11 week. The event was created to honor those who make Clarksville a safer place: active military, veterans, first responders and those who serve others.
All proceeds from Honor Week go to support Reboot Recovery, a non-profit that provides faith-based trauma and PTSD healing courses for military veterans and first responders.
“Steven Elliot understands at the deepest level the sacrifices made by our men and women that serve in combat,” said Evan Owens, Reboot Recovery co-founder and executive director. “He is a national leader in the effort to shine a light on the struggles that our combat veterans face when they come home face. Reboot Recovery exists to serve these men and women, to help them come to terms with the trauma they faced and to be productive members of society.”
Tickets to the Honor Week luncheon are available at their website. The luncheon will be held at Old Glory Distilling Co. on Wednesday, September 11. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and lunch begins at 11:00 a.m.
The luncheon will also name the “Extraordinary Service Award” to an individual who has demonstrated courage and selflessness in the face of trials.
