Proposed cutbacks under the Budget Control Act could cost the army post about half its population.
Army officials are conducting the meeting with community members before deciding where to make military cutbacks.
It’s estimated the proposed cuts would reduce the number of active-duty personnel and civilians at Fort Campbell by more than 16,000.
The impact on jobs, local businesses, property values and schools would be “devastating,” in the words of Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett.
It has been confirmed that Governor Bill Haslam will attend the event.
Tonight’s meeting will be held at Fort Campbell’s Family Resource Center at 6 p.m.
Gate 1 will open at 4 p.m. for residents wishing to attend the meeting. A driver’s license is required to get through the gate.
