CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – An armed robbery suspect is in custody after crashing on I-24.

According to Clarksville police, the robbery occurred at the Marathon gas station at 2088 Wilma Rudolph Blvd. around 11:52 a.m. A man displayed a handgun and demanded money before fleeing the scene.

A witness was able to provide vehicle and tag information, which officers used to track down the suspect on I-24 eastbound.

A Clarksville Police Department detective got behind the vehicle and followed it while adhering to the speed limit.
In the meantime, dispatchers and officers were coordinating with other agencies to set up a take down of the suspect.

The suspect, for an unknown reason, got spooked around exit 24 and abruptly got off the interstate, where several law enforcement agencies were already waiting.

Officers from these different agencies, including the Clarksville Police Department started to pursue the vehicle. The suspect got back on the interstate before crashing into the rear of a truck around mile marker 27.

The suspect lost control of the vehicle, which flipped onto its roof.

After the crash, 40-year-old Charles Mason was taken into custody. He was transported to a hospital for medical clearance.

Police found a gun, money, and drugs in the vehicle. Charges are pending.
