CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Family and friends of Brock Blick, who died in a hunting incident last January, are honoring his memory with an annual scholarship at Austin Peay State University. The 11-year-old was hunting with his father, Mark Blick, in Robertson County when a shotgun went off by accident, killing the young boy.
Jeri Blick talked about her son saying he really enjoyed the outdoors, he loved to fish and hunt and spent a lot of time on his grandparents farm. She said when the family was talking about the best way to honor his memory they decided the best fit was the Austin Peay State University Department of Agriculture. After talking with APSU, the family set up a plan to not only remember Brock, but also support the agriculture department.
The scholarship is called a Fund of Excellence and Blick explained how it works.
“It’s a two-part thing. The first part is a scholarship which is going to be awarded to either a junior or a senior that’s currently in the department of agriculture. They must have a 3.0 grade point average and also be within the counties of Montgomery, Dickson, Stewart, Robertson and Houston Counties,” Blick said.
She added that they wanted to make sure the recipient was local, hoping to encourage people to stay here locally. The second part of the Fund of Excellence will provide additional funding to allow the agriculture department to buy equipment to help build the department. On July 28 the family presented a check for $26,000 to Austin Peay for the scholarship part which will start in the fall. Blick said in the future they are hoping to add more scholarships to it.
Brock took golf lessons at the River Club Golf Center on Warfield Blvd. and the Blick family is planning a golf tournament October 6 as a fundraiser for the scholarship and the fund of excellence. Blick said it will be a four-man scramble at both the River Club and the Clarksville Country Club. There will also be a dinner, live and silent auctions, and entertainment.
“We have been very blessed with donations and we are just very happy how people are helping us to honor Brock and keep his legacy going,” Blick said.
