CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University Art Professor Paul Collins has been creating and placing artistic vote signs throughout Middle Tennessee – especially throughout Nashville and Clarksville – since this summer.

Collins hopes the initiative, called 100days, will inspire area residents to register and vote in the Nov. 3 election.

Collins started the project 100 days before Election Day, and he has placed a sign – an artistically crafted animal sign with the word “vote” emblazoned across the creature – for every day counting down to Nov. 3.

“Voter registration deadline is Oct. 5, and I’ll be doing community giveaways of these vote signs,” Collins said.

Collins also spent Thursday morning placing the signs around Austin Peay’s campus as part of the university’s Art + Design Faculty Triennial art show, which runs Sept. 28.-Oct. 23. You can click here for more information about the triennial.

You can track 100days on Instagram, and you can see where Collins has placed signs at http://tinyurl.com/signmap. You also can see the signs here.

The signs are free and nonpartisan, Collins said, “just a way to celebrate our shared joy and responsibility to vote.”

Austin Peay also has launched an election web page, www.apsu.edu/vote, to help people prepare for Election Day. Also, the Department of Political Science and Public Management is hosting a Civic Engagement 101 seminar at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 to help APSU employees and students prepare for the election.
