CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) — An Austin Peay State University police officer has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest in Montgomery County last week.
According to a university spokesperson, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant Jan. 15 on Derrick Oliver.
Oliver was found to be in possession of 13 THC Vape cartridges containing THC extracts on September 4, 2019, according to his indictment. He is also accused of having a pipe and screen as drug paraphernalia.
Oliver is charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.
Immediately following his arrest, Oliver was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Bill Persinger, spokesman for APSU.
Oliver began working at APSU as a security guard in 2001 and was promoted twice until he left his employment there in 2004. He was rehired in September 2009 as a police officer 2/ Sergeant in Public Safety.
He was being held in the Montgomery County jail but was released on a $10,000 bond. Oliver is expected to appear in court for arraignment on Feb. 10.
