CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – There were many spooky sights and sounds coming from inside the Music/Mass Communications Building at Austin Peay State University Friday, October 29 for the 37th Annual APSU Halloween Percussion Ensemble Concert.

Close to 30 performers took to the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall stage filled with musicians led by David Steinquest, Professor of Percussion at APSU, who was dressed as his super-hero of choice, Batman.

Austin Peay students were also dressed up as their favorite Halloween characters, and along with their musical talents, many students also shared their acting skills with the audience of around 500 people for each of the two shows.

Michelle Fraley, Academic Assistant to the Chair Department of Music at APSU, said both shows sell out each year and depending on the year, we might bring in vocalists and instrumentalists chosen from APSU students, and even members of the community to perform.

The cost of admission was $5 for each ticket or two food pantry items. “The cash and check payments for the tickets benefit the percussion ensemble studio, so we buy instruments and repair instruments with those funds,” Fraley said.

Fraley added that the canned goods that are collected at every concert are given to Loaves and Fishes in Clarksville. Loaves and Fishes is a local nonprofit organization that serves 150-200 meals each day, Monday through Saturday to those who are hungry in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
