CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Austin Peay State University football team recorded the nation’s best FCS NCAA Division I recruiting class in the country according to 247sports.com after signing 21 future Govs Wednesday morning as part of National Signing Day.

There were two former local high school players named as Austin Peay Governors Wednesday. Brevon Johnson, as a Linebacker from Clarksville High School and Coreon Jackson, as a Defensive Back from Kenwood High School.
Coach Healy praised his staff for their efforts and recruitment abilities. “What an exciting class, it was a lot of hard work by these assistant coaches and time spent on the road away from families. To see it all come to fruition here at the end, to get the results that we got says a lot about them and their ability to create relationships and to get people to buy into a vision, even though the proof is not necessarily there right now. It’s an unbelievable day for our program moving forward,” said Healy.
The National Signing Day celebration was attended by some very special Governors supporters. Colonel Eric Lopez, Deputy Commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Campbell and Sergeant Major Robert Lake. Colonel Lopez said the “Strike” brigade has adopted the Governors football team.
“The commanding general wants us to be involved in the community and be connected to the community, so for 2nd Brigade we’ve adopted the football team. We’ve come to practices, we’ve hosted them at Fort Campbell and we just think it’s a symbiotic relationship where they can help us and we can help them,” said Lopez.
