CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and with the warmer weather more motorcyclists are on the streets and roads. Safety on the roadways is of course a top priority for riders and Appleton’s Harley-Davidson in Clarksville is ready to help with their Riding Academy.

Appleton’s Riding Academy offers basic, skilled and trike courses and they do license in the state of Tennessee. Their basic course is an entry level course designed for new riders. They also have Advanced Rider and Trike (three wheel) courses with a new fleet of Harley Davidson Streets.

The entry level course is three days long with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday day classes or classes on Friday night, and Saturday and Sunday morning. The Advanced Rider Course is just one day, about six hours and the Trike Course is two days and is also a licensing course.

Claude Hutchison with Appleton’s talked about the course. “The importance of this course is we teach you how to ride, we don’t just license you. You go down to the DMV and all you have to do is go around the corner and you get your motorcycle license. You come here, we teach you everything you need to know about riding,” said Hutchison.

Hutchison added that Appleton’s and Harley-Davidson is paying for all of the military to take the riding course. If you’re active duty or retired National Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or reservist, the course is free.
