CLARKSVILLE, TN – The family-friendly tradition of tasty barbecue, classic cars, musical entertainment, and inflatables will continue in the 116th annual Lone Oak Picnic. The Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds at 275 Highway 13 in Cunningham. Admission is free. Parking, which is also free, will be off of Alonzo Place.
Hosted by Central Civitan Club, the picnic is their biggest annual fundraiser. The club will sell pork barbecue sandwiches and half chickens straight from on-site pits as well as beverages and other treats. Tables under a large canopy will allow attendees to eat and socialize while listening to the program.
The program will feature The Back Lot Pickers, singer/guitarists who please the crowd with country and folk-rock favorites. The lineup will break from, and then return to, the live music to allow elected officials and candidates on the Aug. 1 ballot to give brief greetings. Builders of good citizenship is the Civitan International motto. “Central Civitan is pleased to help county residents to be informed voters,” said Club President Joe Mills.
Car owners are welcome to “cruise-in” from Highway 13 to show their pride-and-joy vehicles. Ted Elsner, the club’s ambassador to the car community, remarked, “We always get a lot of old, cool cars.” He encourages owners to arrive at 9 a.m.
Inside the air-conditioned clubhouse, patrons may bid in a silent auction to help Montgomery Central Elementary School purchase new playground equipment. Contact Central Civitan to donate merchandise or gift cards for the auction.
Two inflatables for the kids, a bounce house and a 40-foot obstacle course, will add to the fun. Some platinum-level sponsors will present information from booths.
The picnic allows the club to donate to fire departments, schools, youth programs, and other charities. Central Civitan Club meets twice a month in Cunningham. For more, go to Central Civitan on Facebook or email centralcivitan2020@gmail.com.
