Spring St. – On September 15, a member of the public dumped a kitten in the parking lot of the Animal Shelter. The 6-week old buff colored kitten ran up into the spare tire holder under one of the Animal Control vehicles. The Animal Control Director and an Animal Control officer searched the underneath of the vehicle for over half an hour, found where the kitten was hiding, and rescued the very scared kitten from underneath the vehicle. The little male kitten was promptly named “Michelin Man” and staff is working with him to help tame him, since he is feral.
Elder Street – On September 10, an Animal Control Officer responded to the area of Elder Street to check the welfare of a white shepherd type dog. The dog, who resided at the residence, was on a short chain connected to a bush with no shelter, food, or water. Edmondson Ferry Rd – On September 11, Animal Control received a call on the after-hours phone regarding a stray injured dog. The officer found a white shepherd type dog in very poor condition, having trouble walking, suffering from severe hair loss, and appeared to have a swollen jaw. The following morning, the officer assigned to clean dog kennels was the initial officer that responded to the above mentioned Elder Street call, and realized the dog that had been picked up from Edmondson Ferry was the dog tied to the Bush on Elder Street, almost three miles away. Charges for abandonment and cruelty are pending at this time.
Old Clarksville Pike – September 8 – Animal Control received a complaint regarding a thin German shepherd type dog kept outside with mange. The officer found the dog emaciated with green pus coming from both eyes and hair loss over half of his body. The enclosure that the dog was kept in was full of feces, and the dog was not able to find a clean spot to stand. There were several spots of large blood in the pen as well. The officer left a no-one home notice regarding the poor condition of the dog, the large amount of feces, failing to provide veterinary care, and improper shelter. The owner of the dog failed to respond to the notice left on the front door, and the officer responded the following day to find conditions had worsened. Since the 2nd notice, the dog has been seen by the vet and weighs only 41 pounds and is under veterinary care.
