CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County Animal Control urges pet owners to bring their furry friends inside this week as severe weather threatens the area.
Director Jeanette Farrell says pets are susceptible to frost bite and hypothermia just like humans.
“Cold weather is tough on our companion animals. If it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them. Just because your pet is wearing a fur coat does not mean he or she is warm,” she said.
Farrell urges those who are unable to bring their pets inside to provide adequate shelter to protect them. Anyone with questions about what makes a shelter adequate per state law can contact Animal Control at 931-648-5750.
“If you see an animal outside during inclement weather that you do believe is in danger, we also urge you to call animal control as well for us to have an officer respond,” Farrell said. “It could be a matter of life or death.”
