CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCAC) has now begun releasing statistics regarding intake, adoption, and euthanasia rates at the shelter.

Director Jeanette Farrell hopes these numbers will help the public understand how many animals MCAC sees in a month’s time, and what is being done to help them.

The following are results for August 2016:

Companion animals brought to shelter: 556 (273 cats, 277 dogs, 1 goat, 1 chicken and 4 rabbits)
Owner surrenders (part of total): 97 (38 cats, 58 dogs, and 1 rabbit)
Animals in protective custody due to cruelty cases: 23
Strays: 405
Animals processed out of the facility: 284
Transferred to rescue organizations: 135 (53 cats and 82 dogs)
Adopted to new homes: 96 (23 cats, 72 dogs and 1 chicken)
Reclaimed by owners: 55 (4 cats, 50 dogs, and 1 goat)
Euthanized: 228 (161 cats and 67 dogs)
