CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCAC) is asking the public for assistance during the upcoming annual county budget talks, which affects all county departments.

Friday, May 27 is the last day for county departments to submit requests for purchasing, as it is the last day of the fiscal year. Only justified emergency purchases will be allowed until July 1.

This means that the budget is on hold until a new budget is approved, which is standard procedure.

While all county departments, including Animal Control, prepare for this time period each year, an unexpected influx of animals at the shelter could potentially affect supplies.

According to MCAC Director Jeanette Farrell, this waiting period may last longer if the county budget is not approved by commissioners on July 1.

“The donations provided to us by the public during this time are so important for the animals,” Farrell said. “We do plan to the best of our ability, but due to the unknown influx of animals that come through the door, sometimes we do not have enough supplies.”

The shelter is currently housing over 100 kittens in addition to adult cats, dogs, and puppies.

The community can bring donated supplies directly to the shelter at 616 N. Spring Street. Items can be left on the bench outside after hours.

Supplies include:
• Canned cat food (no red dye)
• Puppy food
• Kitten food
• Kitten milk replacement
• Clay kitty litter
• Laundry detergent
• Bleach
• Gift cards to Pet Food Center
