CLARKSVILLE, TN – American Legion CSM Gary W. Crisp Post 289 in Clarksville is conducting buddy checks for veterans and their families from Dec. 15 through Dec. 30, to assist them and provide a friendly voice during potentially difficult times.

Post 289 has a team of volunteer members who perform such outreach, which has been especially important during the challenges and isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Veterans need to know they are not alone,” Post 289 Commander Carmen Cherry said. “American Legion buddy checks have been used in communities large and small throughout the country to help veterans get groceries, medication, transportation, and fulfil other needs since the program launched in 2019. Buddy checks became extremely important during the pandemic when stay-at-home orders made routine household activities so challenging. Veterans who receive buddy check calls also say the most important thing about them is a friendly voice at a time when friends and family are limited in their ability to gather in person. Buddy Checks can help veterans facing mental health and well-being struggles, no matter the reason.”

Those who know of veterans who would appreciate a buddy check call from American Legion Post 289 are encouraged to call Commander Cherry at 931-503-6970 or email Commander Cherry at TNPost289.Commander@gmail.com.
