CLARKSVILLE, TN – KC4TAL is the call sign for the American Legion Amateur Radio Club located in Clarksville. They are a small group of federally licensed radio operators and several who want to become licensed continue to serve our communities. They are constantly learning about technology and sharing their knowledge and expertise with others.

Five major objectives guide the club and support their mission of advancing the art and knowledge of amateur radio among veterans:

  1. To promote amateur radio and electronics.
  2. To promote good relationships between American Legion members who are licensed radio amateurs and the public through public service activities.
  3. To help assist people in obtaining an FCC Amateur Radio License and encouraging currently licensed operators to upgrade.
  4. To participate in activities involving amateur radio and Post 289.
  5. To be prepared to respond in cases of declared emergencies or disasters, and to offer amateur radio communications where necessary.

Anyone can join KC4TAL. If interested in learning more about the American Legion Amateur Radio Club, the club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Meetings start at 6 p.m. and are held at the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library upstairs in Room 1 inside the Veterans Plaza.

Monthly meetings are also opened to anyone interested. It is not a requirement to know anything about amateur radios, antennas or computers nor is it required to have your own radio equipment and we will help you obtain your Amateur Radio license from the FCC. Anyone can always attend the meetings as a guest, but to become a member, a membership application must be filled out and submitted to the Membership Chairman for approval.

Veterans from any service with an honorable discharge can bring in their DD Form 214 and can join the American Legion Post 289 in Clarksville. For a small fee of $40, any veteran can become a Legion Member and enjoy the many benefits Post 289 has to offer.

The Post 289 membership meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. inside the Clarksville Library.
