CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville woman who was allegedly driving under the influence was involved in two crashes that sent two people to the hospital.

According to a police report, 23-year-old Chanae Christine Gillespie was driving near the intersection of Tiny Town and Peachers Mill roads around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when she hit another vehicle with her red Dodge pickup truck.

The officer who arrived at the scene saw the truck driving away from the crash and attempted to catch up with it as it neared Tiny Town Rd. and picked up speed.

As Gillespie headed down Needmore Rd., the officer lost sight of her vehicle but followed the plume of smoke and saw the pickup truck stuck in a ditch, struggling to get out while facing oncoming traffic. She had allegedly sideswiped another vehicle before driving into the ditch.

The officer approached the vehicle and took Gillespie, who appeared to be intoxicated, into custody without incident. She told the officer she had just left a bar on Wilma Rudolph Blvd.

Gillespie was transported to Gateway Medical Center for a blood draw. She has been charged with DUI, vehicular assault, and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

The victim in the first crash was taken to Gateway Medical Center and the second victim was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center after being treated at Gateway. Their conditions are not known at this time.
