FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – It was a special day for Fort Campbell Tuesday, August 3, as the 101st Division Sustainment Brigade (DSB), of the 101st Airborne Division uncased their colors in a ceremony at the Division Parade Field.

The ceremony marked the return of the unit to Fort Campbell, as well as the first time in several years that all of the Screaming Eagles units are back home. Colonel Peter Gilbert, Commander of the 101st DSB and Command Sergeant Major Gregory Davis uncased the unit’s colors.

The uncasing of the colors officially marks the unit’s return from its nine-month deployment and the completion of its mission serving in Operation Spartan Shield, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Freedom Sentinel.

Speaking to those gathered at the parade field, the Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, Major General J.P. McGee, welcomed the Lifeliner soldiers back to Fort Campbell and added one of the things it meant for the 101st.

“With their return and reintegration, this means for the first time in 20 years in this division’s history, we are going to have the entire division back with none of our brigades on deployment orders. that hasn’t happened since September 11,” McGee said.

Praising the service of the soldiers on the mission, the commander of the 101st Division Sustainment Brigade, Colonel Peter Gilbert said the scale and the scope of the deployment was unprecedented. The unit had 3,000 soldiers deployed across 32 outposts in 11 countries.

“These men and women standing before you today epitomize the words selfless service. They represent the most impactful echelons of leadership, who lead by personal example, set new standards of discipline, never walked away from a problem, and always completed the mission no matter how complex or difficult the task,” Gilbert said.
