CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Donelson Christian Academy Wildcats traveled to Procter Court for a district matchup with the Cougars Monday night. The Cougars led from wire to wire, earning a win on the home floor 58-47 and keeping control of their own destiny for the No. 1 seed in their district.

The Cougars came out hot from beyond the arc, hitting five three-pointers in the first quarter, including two each from Jarohn Johnson and Treyce Majors, to take command of the contest early. After that, the game became simple. It wasn’t flashy, but the Cougars consistently made plays, especially defensively, to maintain a lead. Every time DCA got a run of momentum, the Cougars answered right back, leading 30-21 at the half.

The second half was mostly the same story, except that Clarksville Academy was able to build a lead all the way up to 18, thanks to 20-point scoring nights each from forwards Tahj Davie and Johnson.

“We battled and overall were really tough,” said Cougars head coach Sean Jones. “We had some slip-ups, but we battled through them, and that’s what you have to do when it’s winning time in February. You’ve got a group of guys that’s played a lot of basketball together, so when they’re faced with adversity, they can handle it. They’ve been part of a great program even before I got here, and they can play with composure in those situations.”

The Cougars sank a few late free throws to withstand a late Wildcat rally, and treated the fans to a win in their first game since the ice storm break. Now, the marathon of this week continues, as the Cougars have four district games in four days. What do they mean? Simple. Win out, and you’re the No. 1 seed for the Division II-A Middle District tournament. Drop a game? It’s all up to chance.

“We have to take it one game at a time, but we know the situation we’re in, and there’s no reason to run from that,” said Jones. “They know we have to win all four, and we’re the only team in the district that controls our seeding, and that shouldn’t give us pressure; that should be something we should take pride in. We’re going to put ourselves in the best position to go and take that.”
