CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – An alert citizen helped a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy stop an attempted robbery at a gas station on the 200 block of Dover Rd.
According to a press release from the Clarksville Police Department (CPD), Deputy Potter was getting gas May 2 around 10:45 p.m. when he heard a man yelling about the store being robbed. The suspect, later identified as 63-year-old Tony Hiter, then exited the store and began to run away. He did not get away with any money or property.
Once CPD arrived, the investigation was turned over to Detectives Baker and Coleman who determined Hiter had attempted to rob the clerk at knife-point and booked him into the Montgomery County Jail.
Detective Hurst was also investigating another robbery at knife-point which happened at a different gas station on Dover Road earlier that morning. Police determined Hiter was also the suspect in that robbery. On May 7, he was served with the second robbery warrant while in jail.
Hiter’s charges include: criminal attempted robbery, robbery, theft/shoplifting, evading arrest, resisting stop/halt/frisk, and unlawful drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $159,500.
Police are also looking for a blue hard hat with decals that was worn during the robbery at the 500 block of Dover Road. It may have been discarded between Dover Road and Kelsey Drive.
