CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLE) First Baptist Clarksville will host former US Attorney General, Alberto R. Gonzales, as guest speaker on Sunday, September 11, the 15 year anniversary of the historic 9/11 attacks on the United States.
Alberto Gonzales was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1955, son of a construction worker. He rose to become one of the top positions in U.S. government and was appointed by President George W. Bush as the first Hispanic U.S. attorney general. Gonzales also served as Bush’s General Counsel during his governorship, Secretary of State, and Supreme Court Justice in Texas.
During his earlier years, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1973 and attended the U.S. Air Force Academy. He went on to study at Harvard Law School, earning his degree in 1982. Gonzales moved to Washington, D.C. and joined with Bush in 2001 as his legal counsel.
He was a confidante to George W. Bush during the crucible of the 9/11 attacks. In 2005, he was sworn in as U.S. Attorney General. In 2008, Gonzales began a consulting practice. He also taught political science
at Texas Tech University.
Currently, Gonzales is the Dean of the College of Law at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. and teaches Constitutional Law, Separation of Powers, National Security Law, and First Amendment Law. He has received many awards including one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in America by TIME Magazine and Hispanic American of the Year by HISPANIC magazine. He is releasing his new book True Faith and Allegiance: A Story of Service and Sacrifice in War and Peace this week and will be signing available books next Sunday.
