MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – Three burglary suspects were apprehended Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery County.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, a witness passing a home on Louise Road around 3 p.m. noticed the front door to the residence was open and saw a suspicious vehicle in the driveway. The witness said no one should have been home at the time and confronted a woman in the vehicle, who said she was lost.

A white male then exited the front door and a black male came from the side of the residence. They both got into the vehicle with the woman and left. The witness was able to get a partial tag number, a good description of the vehicle, and recognized the white male as Ty Shelton.

Deputies Ayrest and Kent arrived on scene and found property stacked by the front door. Deputy Kent left the scene to search for the vehicle and located it at an apartment complex off Highway 48/13. Deputy Kent spotted three suspects matching the description coming to the vehicle. When they spotted his patrol vehicle, they ran into an apartment. Deputy Ayrest responded to the scene to assist Deputy Kent and all three suspects were detained without incident.

After evidence was collected, the witness was able to positively identify all three suspects. Ty Shelton, Deontez Ferguson and Kaitlyn Gates, were interviewed and charged with Aggravated Burglary. All three were booked into the Montgomery County Jail where they will be held on a $75,000 bond each.

Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson applauded deputies for their quick work apprehending the three suspects and the witness for quickly notifying 911.

“This shows just how quick suspicious looking activity can turn into the apprehension of criminals,” Fuson said. “We are constantly patrolling our county roads but cannot be everywhere at once. If something looks suspicious, it more than likely will lead to criminal activity. The quick notification by this citizen coupled by the prompt response by deputies equated to getting three burglars off of our streets.”

An investigation will continue into whether these individuals are responsible for other unsolved burglaries.
