CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After their first loss in the state tournament, Clarksville High softball began Saturday with an elimination game against Daniel Boone High. The two sides matched up earlier this postseason, and the Wildcats came out on top both times.

With the win, they advanced to the state championship game against Farragut High later that same day. According to the TSSAA, this was Clarksville’s first state championship appearance since the 2015-16 season. However, Clarksville High was overpowered by Farragut’s pitching and was defeated 0-4.

Defense dominated the game early on. The contest remained scoreless throughout the first three innings of play. Wildcat starting pitcher Emberly Nichols was as effective as she’s been all season long. Nichols struck out five out of the first nine batters she faced.

Farragut High finally found some traction on offense in the fourth inning. The first run of the ball game was scored after a leadoff double, and a single brought the base runner home.

Farragut High followed up the fourth with three total insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Clarksville faced an uphill battle, because they struggled to put runners on base during the entire game. The Wildcats did not get their first hit until the seventh inning, and at that point the game was all but over.

Clarksville High’s historic season came to a conclusion with the team finishing with an overall record of 36-12.
