CLARKSVILLE, TN – In honor of Black History Month, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library is offering a free African American Genealogy class on Feb. 12 from 10-11 a.m.
“Researching African American ancestors often requires some creative searching methods,” says Raymond Rosado, public services assistant and facilitator of the upcoming African American Genealogy class. “Many African Americans find it difficult to trace their family earlier than the 1870 Census and stop there. With this class, we hope to be able to show how to get over those hurdles by using the vast amount of resources that are now at our fingertips.”
The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library has free access to Ancestry.com and Newspapers.com for those who wish to do begin their ancestry journey or pick up where they left off. The Genealogy Department at the library also contains numerous books and other resources along with a staff that can help you as you research. This program is free and open to everyone interested in learning more about their family’s past.
