CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The American Cancer Society in Montgomery County officially kicked off their Relay for Life fundraising campaign Tuesday, October 1 with a rally at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is set to begin on Friday, May 16 2014 and continues overnight at the soccer fields at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center, 250 Old Farmers Road.
The rally featured team captains for this year’s and from last year’s event, volunteers and speakers from the community who have benefitted from money raised from the Relay for Life. The award winning West Creek High School step team also preformed.
Close to 53 local teams brought in around $141,000 at the 2013 Relay for Life which was unfortunately struck by rainy weather. Organizers have set a goal of $150,000 this year with a theme of “Hunting for a Cure.”
The Relay for Life is much more than just a walk. There will be live entertainment, contests, games, and lots of activities for the whole family throughout the night. Teams will have their tents and campsites set up and cooking and many will be selling food as part of the fundraising effort.
Relay for life Chairman, Jason Pennington encouraged people to get their teams signed up to be a part of Relay for Life. “Get out there and make a difference. We’ll take teams all the way up to the day of the walk we can get you signed up and get teams going,” said Pennington.
