CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A convention with a theme based on the popular TV program “Doctor Who” is scheduled to come to the area in 2015. “ConGT” will take place March 13-15, 2015.
“Doctor Who” is a British science fiction show that debuted in 1963, making it one of the longest running television shows in history. It follows the exploits of ‘The Doctor,’ an alien who travels through time and space, usually accompanied by one or more human companions. Due to a unique plot twist, The Doctor can regenerate, changing his appearance and personality. This has allowed over a dozen different actors to play the role since its inception.
ConGT will welcome two special guests to the convention. Gareth David-Lloyd, who played character Ianto Jones on the spinoff series “Torchwood” and several episodes of “Doctor Who,” will be present along with Dan Starkey, who is a fan favorite as Commander Strax in a recurring role on the show.
Guests will also have the opportunity to take pictures with a full size replica of ‘The TARDIS,’ The Doctor’s time machine.
The convention will feature a variety of activities including seminars about the show, celebrity question and answer sessions, group viewing sessions and discussions about favorite episodes. Attendees are encouraged to cosplay their favorite characters. Prizes will be given in multiple cosplay categories.
There will be a private Friday night party for VIP attendees, and all attendees are invited to ‘The Doctor Dances,’ a Saturday night dance to show off their best cosplay efforts.
Vendors will be selling original artwork, replicas, games, jewelry and other merchandise.
The convention will be hosted at the Riverview Inn, which will offer a special rate of $84 for those who call 877-47-RIVER and ask for the ConGT rate.
