CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County has had another death from COVID-19, bringing the total to 9.
Joey Smith, director of the Montgomery County Health Department said a death from COVID-19 is always disheartening to hear about in our county. However, in comparison to some of our sister counties it could be worse.
“I feel fortunate, because if you looked at any of the other sister counties — for instance Rutherford County had 2 deaths today and 43 deaths total — I’m glad we don’t have 43 deaths, but I’m not satisfied with 9 deaths either.
“The message to say to everyone is that this ninth death here in Montgomery County was in that vulnerable population group, even though I can’t share the demographics due to privacy. We need to do all we can to keep the virus from getting to those who are vulnerable. So far, over 62 percent are over the age of 71 and 100 percent of the deaths here have been part of the vulnerable population.”
As of Tuesday, July 21, there are now 777 active cases of COVID-19 reported here, according to Smith. That brings the total cases reported since March 6 to 1,196.
The number of active cases, that is, the number of people currently testing positive who have not yet recovered, has leveled off in recent days. Active cases were 771 on Saturday, 786 on Sunday, then dropping to 779 on Monday and 777 on Tuesday.

There has been a significant drop in the number of new test results, however, which could play a big role in the leveling off of active case reports. On Saturday, there were 557 new test results, Sunday 240, Monday 306, and Tuesday only 112.
