CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Young Professionals (CYP) met Wednesday, July 9 and the three candidates running for Montgomery County Mayor in the August 7 general election were the special guests.

Each of the candidates, Carolyn Bowers, Jim Durrett and Curt Mize made opening statements to the group and then answered questions from CYP members. Lowering county debt, consolidated government and improving the infrastructure of the county were some of the topics brought up.

Mayor Bowers, who is seeking a third term, talked about the county’s last eight years saying a lot of new business and industry have moved to Montgomery County. She also talked about the many expansion and improvements to the school system and also to parks in the county.

Candidate Jim Durrett talked about his years of work as an employee of the City of Clarksville. Durrett also spoke about his plans for handling Montgomery County debt, taxes and schools. He also said his platform in the campaign is built on fiscal responsibility.

Next, candidate Curt Mize, talked about his military service and the business he has run for the last 30 years, Lui Heimansohn Steel and Salvage. Mize talked about being in favor of term limits, runoff elections, removing conflict of interest in county government and reducing county debt.
