CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville kindergartner is starring in a music video for a song that has been pulling the heartstrings of blended families all across America.
Country artist Elvie Shane’s song “My Boy” is a ballad about the role of a stepfather and the love he feels for his son.
“I wasn’t there for his first steps, but I aint’ missed a ball game yet,” Shane sings in the song.
Phillip Martone, 5, plays the son in the video opposite his mom, Carley Martone, a local actress.
One of the more memorable scenes shows a baseball game where Phillip and Luke Preston, who plays his stepdad, act out the lyrics. Phillip, who played T-ball for the Clarksville National Little League, wears his uniform in the video.
“They loved that he already had a uniform to wear. … He had such a great time on this set,” Carley Martone said. “We bumped into Elvie Shane the day before when we went for COVID-19 testing and Elvie promised Phillip Airheads while on set. He followed through and also gave Phillip a few other special surprises.”
Phillip, who wears a hearing aid, has been an actor since he was about 4 1/2 and has played in a few short films, a PNC Bank commercial, and an ADT print ad since signing with an Atlanta agency.
The video for “My Boy” was shot Hartsville, Tennessee, in a day and half in mid-October.
“I feel tremendously grateful to Elvie … the producers, and all of the production team for allowing us to be a part of something so special,” Carley Martone said. “This song has touched so many people and means so much to them, and for good reason. Elvie wrote this song about his relationship with his own son, meeting him at the age 5 the same age Phillip is. I think many people can resonate with the message of this song and video.”
