CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – 5 Star Radio’s 2013 Toy Drive was a huge success, collecting more than 2,200 toys to be donated to local organizations that support children in need during the holiday season.

Station employees set up camp at Clarksville’s Toys ‘R Us location Dec. 13 and 14 to collect gifts and monetary donations from the public, and the response was outstanding. Adults and children alike emptied their pockets and their hearts for the cause.

Even the Grinch made an appearance, delighting the crowd in full character as he shopped for the less fortunate. This generous man asked his Facebook friends to make donations, and he ended up with over $350 to buy toys.

Cash donations were used to purchase toys for teenage boys and girls, and checks for the organizations totaled almost $1,800.

Volunteers from Rossview High School’s JROTC program helped load the toys into a truck, which they sorted before being delivered.

The toys will be distributed to Toys for Tots, Centerstone (behavioral health care facility), Crisis 211, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Sanctuary (women’s shelter) to provide a happier holiday for the children.

“We would like to thank Toys ‘R Us, Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union, the Clarksville Area YMCA, Furniture Connection, Rossview High’s JROTC, and Starbucks for their gracious support,” said 5 Star Radio’s General Manager Katie Gambill. “Without their efforts this would not have been possible.”
