CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – For the newest member of 5 Star Radio’s family, you could say the circle is complete. Almost 20 years after leaving radio to pursue a career as a sports journalist in newspapers, Jimmy Trodglen is returning to broadcasting, joining 5 Star as Sports Director for the new 100.7 FM ESPN Clarksville and 540-AM.
Along with working on air, and developing and creating local on air sports programming, Trodglen will continue his sports writing career, this time writing sports for Clarksvillenow.com.
With his return to 5 Star, Trodglen is returning to his old roots, sort of. He worked at Q108 in the late 1980s when he was a student at Austin Peay. Trodglen spent the past 11 years as sports editor of The Leaf-Chronicle covering the Titans, Austin Peay, local high school sports and local golf. Before he joined The Leaf-Chronicle, Trodglen was sports editor of The Daily Dispatch in Henderson, N.C. where he covered ACC basketball and football, NASCAR Sprint Cup races in Charlotte, N.C. and Martinsville, Va., and high school sports. Trodglen also worked as a sports writer with the News Examiner in Gallatin, The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro and the Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville.
Trodglen worked as a sports writer at The Leaf-Chronicle in the late 1980s and the mid-1990s while attending Austin Peay. He earned a B.S. in Communications in 1990 majoring in broadcasting and minoring in journalism. He earned a M.A. from Austin Peay in 1997 in Communications. Trodglen has served as adjunct faculty at Austin Peay for the past eight years teaching in the Communications Department.

Hobbies: Writing sports, talking about sports, UT football, the Orioles, fishing, golf, and hanging out with his 8-year-old son, Ross. Oh, and The Beatles. Musical taste: Trodglen is an admitted Beatles fanatic and saw Paul McCartney for a fourth time at Bonnaroo this summer. Trodglen is an avid music fan and routinely blows his extra cash on concerts. He’s been to over 60 concerts, two years ago seeing The Who, Aerosmith and Van Halen in one memorable summer.
