Update, 2 p.m.: Firefighters arrived to heavy flames coming from the home, in the 5800 area of Bryant Hollow Road, according to Montgomery County Fire Service.

Two occupants escaped with their pets and took shelter at a neighbor’s house. The American Red Cross was dispatched to assist the displaced family. The fire started in a shop directly behind the home. The cause is still under investigation, MCFS said.

The cold weather was a challenge; a salt truck was called to the scene to help melt the ice left in the road from firefighting operations. Stations 15, 16, 17 and 18 responded.
