Fort Campbell, KY. – There were no tricks, just treats Wednesday as around 60 “Currahee” Soldiers with the 4th Brigade Combat Team were welcomed home at Fort Campbell from their deployment to Afghanistan while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Both the family members and Soldiers were treated to an exciting reunion in hangar 3 at Campbell Army Airfield. In every welcome home ceremony for 101st Soldiers there are always children and adults wearing t-shirts and carrying signs to welcome home their special Soldier.

It was a scene repeated time and time again at welcome home ceremonies as cheers rang out when the Soldiers stepped off the airplane and again as they marched into the hangar. Perhaps the most moving part of the welcome home ceremony is when the Soldiers are allowed time with their families and they run to each other for hugs and kisses.

One 4th Brigade Soldier, First Sergeant Matthew Updike, was met by his family and talked about being home. “Obviously it feels great and you can see my family here so you can see how great it feels. I’m glad to be here and glad to get everybody home safely. I just like being home with my family,” Updike said.
