There were lots of hugs, kisses, and even a few tears of joy as 237 soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) were welcomed home Friday night. The soldiers returned from their nine-month deployment where the unit conducted operations in support of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel, Scott W. Kirkpatrick, Deputy Brigade Commander for the 3rd Brigade said this about the soldiers return. “What a great day to be a Rakkasan and a Screaming Eagle, and we are so proud of these young troopers who have been out there on the frontiers of freedom for the past nine months.”
Another group of around 200 3rd BCT soldiers are scheduled to return to Fort Campbell Monday, July 27.
