FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) “Strike” held a memorial re-dedication ceremony Wednesday to honor 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment soldiers killed in action during the Vietnam War.

Many Vietnam Veterans who served in the 2-502 Infantry Regiment along with soldiers currently serving in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team were on hand for the unveiling of the updated version of the unit’s Vietnam Memorial, at the corner of Screaming Eagle Blvd. and Tennessee Ave. on Fort Campbell. The Vietnam Veterans of the 2-502 continue to maintain a relationship with current soldiers of the regiment.

The changes included the addition of 26 names of fallen soldiers who were not previously listed, as well as cosmetic changes to the monument which was originally dedicated in 1986. The 2-502 Infantry regiment, formerly the 2-502 Parachute Infantry Regiment, served in Vietnam from 1965-1972.

During its service in Vietnam, the battalion saw extensive combat, losing 474 soldiers, including three who were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The unit also earned two Presidential Unit Citations.
