Close to 300 runners took to the streets of downtown Clarksville, Saturday, August 15, for the 2nd Annual Bubba Johnson Memorial 5K Road Race and one mile fun run. The event honored the service to the community of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy David “Bubba” Johnson who lost his life on January 12 2014 in a vehicle accident while on duty. Johnson had also served with Montgomery County EMS and the Clarksville Police Department. The date would have been Johnson’s 54th birthday.

Lt. Sonny Goodowens with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who led the organization of the event said he wanted to thank all of the businesses and organizations who helped sponsor the race as well as all the volunteers who donated their services to make the event successful. Goodowens also thanked The Runners Hub for their support each year and for their donation of first prize for the first place overall male and female winners.

Funds raised at the event will go toward a scholarship in Deputy Johnson’s name for the children of local Public Safety Personnel attending Austin Peay State University.
