CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Twenty students have been selected as service ambassadors for Lead United Student Service Council, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region’s first student executive committee.

Lead United is a student leadership council focusing on community service in the local area. Student service ambassadors will serve on a student executive committee to help develop and implement volunteer projects for middle and high school students throughout Clarksville.

“We wanted to create an opportunity that cultivates an atmosphere of service leadership – serving first, leading second,” said United Way Outreach Manager Sarah Wood. “Lead United service ambassadors will take part in increasing volunteerism throughout our community on a youth based level.”

One to three students from local high schools will represent their school by creating awareness about volunteerism, as well as leading their class peers to volunteer together. Ambassadors will meet once a month during the school year to plan, coordinate and complete one to two service projects each year.

A selection committee reviewed the applications and selected the candidates based on their qualities of leadership, service, creativity and awareness of humanitarian needs in the Clarksville community.

“Community service is an essential way for students to explore their interests and begin to define possible future paths. By engaging in volunteer work, youth have an opportunity to learn experientially. They discover where their passions lie while undertaking projects that truly make a difference. These experiences not only help instill a lifelong interest in giving back, but also underscores the impact of taking action,” said United Way CEO Ginna Holleman.
