STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. – Two people were killed and one was critically injured in a head-on crash on Highway 79 in Stewart County Thursday night.
The crash occurred around 11:47 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 232.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol report says 23-year-old Ruby Valeria Garcia of Dallas, Texas was driving a Chevy Malibu northbound at a high rate of speed when she crossed over the center line for an unknown reason and hit an oncoming vehicle.
The other vehicle was a Kia Sorento driven by 73-year-old Cora G. Logan of Dover, TN.
Garcia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died on impact. Logan died later at the Henry County Hospital Emergency Room. She had been wearing a seatbelt.
Garcia’s passenger, 21-year-old Michael Eric Olalde of Dallas, Texas, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center’s Trauma Center in critical condition. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The report indicates that Garcia had drugs in her system at the time of the crash.
