CUMBERLAND CITY, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A 47-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning in a boating incident on the Cumberland River.
At about 2:30 a.m., Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers responded to a call about a capsized boat near the upper end of the Cumberland City Island, according to a TWRA news release.
Michael W. Mabes and Cynthia M. Taylor, both from Woodlawn in Montgomery County, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither were wearing a lifejacket at the time, TWRA said.
Local agencies assisting were Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, Stewart County Fire Rescue, Stewart County Emergency Medical Service, and the Cumberland City Police Department.
The incident remains under investigation.
There have been eight boating fatalities on Tennessee waters this year, TWRA said.
