Oak Grove, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Oak Grove Tourism & Convention Commission announced Thursday, the 13th Annual Spring into Summer Salutes Ft. Campbell Festival scheduled for May 23 & 24, 2020, is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Traci Cunningham, Executive Director of the Oak Grove Tourism & Convention Commission said they tried to work out other dates, but it was due to uncertainty has led to cancellation.
“We have tried to work out other dates however, we do not want to schedule too soon, or too late in the season. There are also so many acts and entertainment that must agree on the new date and we have not been able to come to an agreement,” Cunningham said. “In addition, due to the uncertainty of how long this virus will be a threat to our country, we would not feel comfortable encouraging so many people to come to one area. We appreciate everyone’s support for our festivals, and we hope to continue our tradition of the Butterfly Festival in September.”
Many industries are suffering right now, and the travel and tourism industry is no exception.
“Canceling the festival is the last thing that we want to do, but we must keep our community and visitor’s health and safety as our number one priority,” Cunningham continued. “We know that this is not only hard for us, but hard for everyone. Not a single person has gone unaffected by this pandemic. But we are strong, and we will get through this together. Our thoughts, of course, are with the families and friends of those we’ve lost, and we hope that with the measures put in place by the CDC and our leaders, we are hopeful this will end soon. Please remember We Are Team Kentucky and We Are Kentucky Strong!”
