CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The 19th Judicial Drug Task Force in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration had another successful National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The annual event was held at the Walgreens on Madison Street this past Saturday.

Deputies collected five boxes of old, unused prescription medication weighing a total of 138 pounds. Investigator Kyle Darnell said, “The turnout was very good this year with many people taking advantage of the drive up drop off service.”

The Drug Take-Back Day was started to address the issues of public safety and public health. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are rising at alarming rates. Medicines that sit in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse by family and friends.

If you missed the event, you can go to FDA.gov to find step by step directions on how to dispose of old medications.
