CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Bailyn Hall is only 12-years-old, but he can give an accurate and detailed weather forecast like the best of meteorologists.
In fact, his dream is to be a meteorologist or storm chaser when he grows up, and he is already making leaps and bounds pursuing that dream by educating himself through research and doing live daily Facebook forecasts.
He has even taken a tornado spotter course and attended a National Weather Services internship in 2019 where he launched a weather balloon.
Whitehouse Middle School 6th grader has a 5-star review and over 1,000 followers on his TennesseeWx Facebook page.
“Before Bailyn could really speak, he was always drawn to the weather,” Amy House, his mother said. “He wanted to chase tornadoes as young as 3 years old. He knows so much about the weather, more than most graduates out of college. … This is a natural instinct for him.”
Since he could watch movies his favorite movie was “Twister,” but now he can spot weather inaccuracies in the movie, Amy Hall said.
A Big Dream
Bailyn’s big dream has caught the eye of many who want to help him reach that dream.
Austin Camp, who was a follower on Bailyn’s page, contacted Amy Hall and donated equipment and softaware to help Bailyn with his live reports. Another person donated a weather radio.
However, during a move from Georgia, Bailyn’s equipment was misplaced in the move.
“He has such a passion for this and I’m a single mom and can only do so much to help,” Amy Hall said. “I want to get him everything he needs to accomplish his dreams.”
He currently researches and does all his reports from his iPhone.
Camp has started a Gofundme to help his mother purchase the equipment he needs.
“I have organized a gofundme to try and get him a new computer with broadcasting equipment so we as a community can better be prepared for the weather in the upcoming months,” Camp said. “At 12 years old, he is putting out weather alerts, has taken spotter courses, and has met even and learned a bit from the NWS. He has made his dreams come true, but he is limited. If you ever watch his live streams for severe weather, you will notice he is not using a favorable hardware. What I am hoping to do is to be able to get him setup with a computer, his own broadcasting software, radar software, etc, and willing to put fourth $250 dollars of my own towards it.”
A Big Passion
Daily, Bailyn gives weather updates from temperature highs and lows, approaching storms, and more.
Why such passion at just 12? His mother said his heart is big and he simply wants to help the public.
Bailyn has had his fair share of hardships in life, many that would bring even the toughest adult to their knees.
He’s battled Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes for most of his life and four years ago, his 15-year-old sisters was tragically killed in a bus accident.
His mother said the heartbreak has been devasting for them both, but they continue to pray, lean on their faith and strive to live in a way to honor her late daughter’s life.
With his illness, even on days where he’s not feeling well, Bailynn still wants do his Facebook Live weather updates.
“He truly wants to help the public. He will have a low blood sugar and I’ll be giving him juice, or a bar and he will be worried about doing the forecast,” Amy Hall said.
When the tornadoes swept through Middle Tennessee wrecking havoc on Nashville, Cookeville and surround communities, Amy Hall said Bailyn was clued to the weather radar and news coverage and could not sleep.
“He really took it to heart. He knew it would be bad and he was so upset, almost in tears when he saw the destruction it did,” she said.
Bailyn’s dreams, passions and desire to help people in the community stay safe will take him far in life and there’s no doubt with his drive he will accomplish all his big heart dreams of.
