Sunday afternoon, 249 Soldiers with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) “Wings of Destiny” were welcomed back home to Fort Campbell by family, friends and comrades. The temperature was 22 degrees with a wind chill of 10 degrees at Campbell Army Airfield as they stepped off the plane but there were still plenty of warm cheers and cries of welcome home.
The 101st CAB is returning from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. Small groups of Soldiers have been coming home over the past week or so but this was the first large group of the main body of troops. More Welcome Home Ceremonies are scheduled over the next week for the 101st CAB.
Once the entire brigade has returned, it will be the first time all of the soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) have been back at since 2007.
